What’s One Thing You Wish Someone Had Told You When You Started Golf? ⛳💚

Hi ladies, I was thinking about this after my round yesterday and had to ask… If you could go back and give your beginner-golfer self one piece of advice, what would it be? For me, it would be: “Stop trying to hit the ball as hard as you can.” 😅 When I first started playing golf, I thought distance was everything. I’d swing out of my shoes on every tee box and wonder why the ball ended up in the next zip code. It took me a while to realize that good tempo and solid contact are way more important than brute force. I probably would have saved myself a lot of lost golf balls if I’d learned that lesson sooner! So now I’m curious… What do you wish someone had told you when you first started golfing? Was there a golf tip that completely changed your game? What’s one mistake you see beginner golfers make all the time? I always enjoy these women’s golf discussions because there’s so much knowledge and experience in this community. Plus, it’s fun to look back and laugh at some of the things we used to do on the golf course. Looking forward to hearing your answers! Susan 💚⛳

Hi Allie! 😊 First of all, don’t feel bad at all — I think just about every golfer has been confused by the golf scoring terms at some point. When I started, I could never remember whether a birdie was better than a bogey or the other way around! 😅 What finally helped me was remembering that: ⛳ Birdie = 1 under par (good!) ⛳ Par = exactly what the hole is supposed to take ⛳ Bogey = 1 over par ⛳ Eagle = 2 under par (rare and exciting!) Honestly, after a few rounds it starts to become second nature. The fact that you’re keeping score and learning the terms means you’re already making progress. My golf confession is that when I first started, I was so focused on remembering the score that I’d sometimes forget how many strokes I’d actually taken on the hole! 😂 Keep asking questions and don’t be afraid to laugh at the learning process. Golf has a lot of little rules and terms, but that’s part of the fun. Before long you’ll be explaining birdies and bogeys to the next beginner who joins the forum. Welcome to the game, Allie! 💚⛳ — Susan 🌸
